Karnataka publishes SIR notice list, but Bengaluru voters still lack hearing details

The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has made public the list of people marked to receive notices in the SIR exercise, covering 43.81 lakh electors across the State.

For Bengaluru voters, the list confirms whether a notice has been marked against their name, but not the date, time or venue of the hearing. Hearings have begun across Karnataka, and people who received notices late may have little time to attend or seek a rescheduling.

Notices are being issued when an elector’s or parent’s details could not be mapped to the 2002 rolls, or for what officials classify as logical discrepancies — including unlikely age gaps and name or spelling mismatches. Voters have said notices were also generated despite their details being correctly entered.

In Byatarayanapura, the Bengaluru DEO found that three people had been issued notices despite correct mapping details. They were still required to appear for an inquiry. Electors can be represented only by the person named in the notice; a hearing may be rescheduled once, at the Electoral Registration Officer’s discretion.

Some electors have also said Booth Level Officers asked them to collect notices at polling stations rather than delivering them at home.
