Karnataka sets $1-trillion economy target for 2037 at Vidhana Soudha programme

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar set a target of making Karnataka a $1-trillion economy by 2037 at a programme in Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

The government’s nine-point Nava Sankalpa roadmap covers employment, infrastructure, education, healthcare and regional development. Its new Udyoga Sethu platform is meant to let students and job seekers register for employment opportunities while companies list their staffing needs. Shivakumar said training and skill development would be shaped around the requirements of companies, factories and individual units, with a focus on opportunities in rural areas and beyond Bengaluru.

The government also announced a 15% reservation for students studying in rural government schools.

At the 100-day event, Shivakumar reiterated the administration’s five welfare guarantees. He said one Gruha Lakshmi payment remained pending. The scheme provides ₹2,000 a month to the woman head of an eligible family; Gruha Jyothi offers up to 200 units of free household electricity, while Shakti provides free bus travel for women.

A booklet detailing the government’s work during its first 100 days was released at the programme.
