Khattar calls for Partition history to be included in national curriculum at Gurugram event

Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar called for the experiences and human cost of the Partition to be preserved in history and included in the national curriculum at a remembrance event in Gurugram.

Speaking at the state-level Partition Horrors Remembrance Day programme, Khattar said teaching younger people about the tragedy and its long-term consequences was necessary to keep its memory alive. He described August 14 as a day carrying both the achievement of Independence and the pain of the country’s division.

Khattar said the drawing of new borders through Punjab and Bengal left millions uncertain about where the international boundary would fall. He said many displaced families later rebuilt their lives through enterprise, self-employment and industry, contributing to India’s economic development.

He paid floral tribute to Partition victims at the Wall of Remembrance and visited an exhibition on Partition history and memories. A documentary was also screened.

BJP national president and Rajya Sabha member Nitin Nabin attended as chief guest. Union minister of state Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Bhatia and BJP Haryana president Archana Gupta were among those present.
