Delhi Independence Day events: kite-flying, cycle and motorcycle rides

Delhi residents can attend kite-flying events in Old Delhi or join cycle and motorcycle rides planned for the Independence Day weekend.

On August 15, the Patang Aur Pech Festival at Mushk Cafe in Urdu Bazar, near Jama Masjid, will provide participants with kites, string and reels. Instructors will be available to help participants fly kites. Historian and author Rana Safvi is scheduled to speak about the connection between kites and freedom in the city.

Another Old Delhi event, Azaadi Ki Patangbaazi, combines kite-flying with storytelling by Fouzia Dastango and a meal at the home and terrace of Sana Begum.

Cyclists will set off at 5.30am from the Commonwealth Games Village in Akshardham for the Freedom 80 Ride, an 80-km route ending at Bel Chowk in Greater Noida. Entry is ₹250.

The Tiranga Trail Ride 3.0 is planned for August 16. Around 500 motorcyclists are expected to travel 50 km from Vikram Batra Chowk to Murthal. The ride starts at 6am, with entry starting at ₹399.
