Koramangala gets 70mm rain as storm waterlogs Bengaluru roads

Koramangala received 70mm of rain by 7.30pm on Tuesday as an evening thunderstorm waterlogged roads and slowed commuters across Bengaluru.

Traffic moved slowly near Chickpet Metro station, New Tharagupet, Jayamahal Road near Cantonment Railway Station, Hebbal, Nagawara–Veerannapalya, Mehkri Circle, Indiranagar, Wilson Garden, the Ayyappa underpass in Madiwala, Peenya Flyover and Rupena Agrahara. Bengaluru Traffic Police asked motorists to use caution on affected stretches.

New BEL Road recorded 47mm of rain, RT Nagar 46mm, Jayanagar 35mm and HSR Layout 31mm. The showers followed days when maximum temperatures hovered between 31°C and 32°C; Tuesday's high was 32.1°C.

Meteorologists said winds of around 30-40kmph accompanied the storm, driven by moisture from the Bay of Bengal and favourable atmospheric conditions. Civic officials received reports of fallen branches at six locations in Bengaluru South, along with reports of fallen trees in Chickpet, KH Double Road and Indiranagar. A compound wall collapsed in Nanjamba Agrahara in Chamarajpet division; no injuries were reported.

More rain is forecast over the next two days.
