Circular Textile Lab opens at Koramangala waste centre

GBA officials said a Circular Textile Lab inaugurated at Kasa Rasa Kendra in Koramangala on Monday is Bengaluru’s first such facility.

The lab will collect fabric scraps from garment units and local tailors and reuse them to make garments and eco-friendly bags. The project plans to create work for people from economically disadvantaged communities.

A thrift store is being set up to sell products made from recycled textiles. Revenue from the store is intended for worker welfare and to run the project.

The facility has an effluent and sewage treatment system for dyes and chemicals produced during textile processing. The project previously operated in Kolar Gold Fields and is planned to expand from Koramangala to other Bengaluru wards.

Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the lab alongside other GBA officials. An SWM Learning Centre also opened at the site, offering hands-on public training in segregation, composting, waste reduction at source and the seven-R sustainability framework. The centre operates within a waste-processing unit that handles around 18 tonnes of waste each day.
