Koramangala peptide event cancelled after FDA notice to organisers

The invite-only “peptide party” planned in Koramangala for 6.30pm on August 29 has been cancelled after the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration issued a notice to its organisers.

Online advertisements described the event as a gathering with peptide tastings, food, music and networking for up to 50 invitees. The organiser advertised it as Bengaluru’s first such event. The posts were removed on Friday.

The FDA said it acted after seeing the advertisements and sent drug inspectors to the office of Upsurge Labs LLP, which the department identified in its public advisory as the organiser.

“We did not know what kind of products they were using at the party,” FDA commissioner Srinivas K said. “Hence, our drug inspectors visited their office and issued a notice.”

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that can act as building blocks or signalling molecules in the body. Products described as peptides are marketed online for weight loss, anti-ageing, fitness and wellness.

An authorised company representative appeared before FDA officials and said the event had been cancelled, according to the advisory. The company has sought time to submit documents relating to the planned gathering.
