Koramangala ‘peptide party’ cancelled after regulators seek safety documents

A planned August 29 biohacking gathering in Koramangala, advertised online as a ‘peptide party’, was cancelled after Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration officials intervened.

The invite-only event was expected to bring together about 50 people and advertised music, networking and ‘peptide tasting’. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that can act as biological signalling molecules; some laboratory-made peptide medicines have regulated therapeutic uses.

Doctors raised concerns about people being given medical compounds without supervision, citing risks including allergic reactions, hormonal imbalance, organ strain and complications from incorrect doses. The regulators issued a formal notice asking organisers for the products’ exact composition and manufacturing source, drug licences, evidence supporting health claims, and plans for medical supervision.

Organisers said the gathering was intended to educate participants about biohacking rather than cause harm. They did not immediately provide the documentation required to establish human-use safety standards and cancelled the meetup.
