Noida police book landlord after worker dies in Sorkha electric shock

Sobran, 21, was declared dead at a nearby hospital after receiving an electric shock while finishing plaster work at a two-storey house in Sorkha, Noida, at about 5pm on Saturday, police said.

Vijaykant, who tried to help Sobran, also received an electric shock and is undergoing treatment. Police said he was stable. Both men were daily-wage labourers from Shahjahanpur and were working on the house’s first floor, while the landlord lived on the ground floor.

The first floor did not have a lighting connection, police said. A temporary bulb had been fitted through an extension board and additional wiring, and the wire had a cut in the middle. Sobran’s feet were wet when he came into contact with it, Sector 113 station house officer Pramod Kumar said.

Police said the landlord brought both workers downstairs after hearing their screams. Sobran’s post-mortem was conducted on Sunday in the presence of his family.

Sector 113 police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which concerns causing death by negligence, on a complaint from a family member. The complaint alleges negligence by the landlord. No arrest had been made when police shared the update, and the investigation is continuing.
