Labourer dies after touching fallen power line in Bajghera village

Mauji, a 32-year-old labourer from Ramkot in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, died after touching a broken high-tension power line on a road in Bajghera village on Thursday night.

It was raining and dark when he came into contact with the fallen wire, police said. Residents who heard his screams took him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. His body was handed to his family after a postmortem on Friday.

Mauji’s family approached police alleging negligence by the electricity department. Officers are verifying how the power line came to be lying on the road and whether its maintenance had lapsed. Police said action would follow if negligence is established.
