Gurgaon’s Leopard Trail to get waterbody revival, butterfly park

A one-acre waterbody at Gurgaon’s Leopard Trail is being restored under a forest department project targeted for completion by the end of September.

The department will remove excessive algae and water hyacinth from the waterbody, which lies within the Aravali landscape. Natural drainage channels will continue to supply the waterbody, and officials said the work will avoid major changes to the surrounding terrain.

Visitors will get a 100-metre unpaved walkway around the waterbody. The plan also includes a bamboo boundary and a misting system along the stretch. A forest official said the approach is intended to retain the natural terrain and vegetation while making the site accessible.

The project includes a half-acre butterfly park, with plantations intended to provide food and habitat for butterflies. The additions are planned on forest land and are intended to retain the trail’s rocky, scrub-covered character rather than create a conventional landscaped park.

The forest department is targeting the end of September to complete the waterbody restoration, walkway and butterfly park.
