LG directs Delhi Police to resurvey senior citizens and widen app access

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed Delhi Police to carry out a fresh survey of senior citizens across the capital and widen the reach of its dedicated mobile application for elderly residents.

At a law-and-order review at Raj Niwas on Wednesday, Sandhu reviewed the app’s functioning, registration drives, outreach work and beat-level interactions between police personnel and senior citizens. He called for prompt grievance redressal, reliable emergency support and regular visits by local police staff.

Police commissioner Anurag Kumar and senior officers attended the meeting, which also examined specialised policing for women, children and senior citizens.

Officers briefed the LG on Shishtachar Squads, deployed around educational institutions, transit hubs and crowded markets to address street harassment and maintain public order. Sandhu sought proactive patrolling and heightened vigilance, and asked for an update on dedicated police and security staff inside Pink Buses.

The squads have been part of Delhi Police’s wider women-safety drive, which has previously led to more than 1 lakh detentions.
