Malini Awasthi performs monsoon baithaki at Delhi’s Travancore Palace
Folk singer Malini Awasthi performed classical and folk music centred on the monsoon at Travancore Palace in New Delhi.
Awasthi opened the baithaki with the thumri “Ab Ke Sawan Piya Ki Khabar” and performed with a group of accompanying musicians. The programme moved through kajri, dadra, ghazal and Awadhi folk compositions, with Riddhima Kapoor Sahni attending as guest of honour.

Awasthi opened with the thumri “Ab Ke Sawan Piya Ki Khabar”, accompanied by Pandit Dharmnath Mishra, Ustad Murad Ali Khan, Ustad Athhar Hussain, Sachin Kumar, Amit and Subhan. Her set moved through kajri, dadra, ghazal and Awadhi folk, drawing on forms associated with romance, longing and the rainy season.
The singer described the baithaki as a space for exchange between performers and listeners rather than the distance of a large concert. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, a jewellery designer and actor, attended as guest of honour.
