Man held with pistol and 15 cartridges in Vijay Nagar security check
Delhi Police said a 27-year-old Baghpat resident was arrested after a vehicle check on Surjeet Singh Marg in north-west Delhi ahead of Independence Day.
Police said they recovered an automatic pistol and 15 cartridges from Salman, alias Pahalvan, after stopping a car in Vijay Nagar on Wednesday evening. One associate escaped, and officers are trying to trace him and determine where the weapon came from and how it was intended to be used.

A preventive security check in Vijay Nagar led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man allegedly carrying an automatic pistol and 15 cartridges, Delhi Police said.
The accused has been identified as Salman, alias Pahalvan, a resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, a Mukherji Nagar police team stopped a Uttar Pradesh-registered car on Surjeet Singh Marg at around 8 pm on Wednesday, amid heightened Independence Day security arrangements. The driver and passenger allegedly got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee towards the NDPL office.
Police said Salman was apprehended, while the other person managed to escape.
Officers allegedly recovered a pistol and 10 cartridges from Salman. Five more cartridges were found in the vehicle’s dashboard, police said. The car has been seized.
A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Mukherji Nagar police station. Police said Salman had previously been involved in robbery and snatching cases.
Investigators are searching for the absconding associate and examining the source and intended use of the firearm.
