Manesar to get its first construction-waste processing plant by January

Around 50 tonnes of construction and demolition waste is generated in Manesar each day. The town is set to get its first dedicated processing plant.

Honda Motors will build the ₹8 crore facility on about four acres for the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM). The plant is designed to process 300 tonnes of construction and demolition waste a day and is expected to be completed within four months. MCM Commissioner Pradeep Singh has asked civic officials and company representatives to speed up work so operations can begin in January.

MCM will operate and maintain the plant. Recovered material will be used in civic works such as roads, buildings and interlocking projects, Singh said, which could lower project costs.

Gurugram has one construction-waste processing facility at Basai, under the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram. In Manesar, construction debris has sometimes been discarded on vacant land, roadsides and other public areas.

An MCM official said work has started at a site away from residential areas. The facility will be covered on all sides.
