MCD begins repairs of park gyms, plans drive for children’s play equipment

At Godavari Park in East of Kailash, broken swings and slides were dismantled after resident Karan Aggarwal complained to the MCD and on the PMO portal. He said residents now expect the equipment to be put back only after it is properly repaired.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has begun a repair programme for damaged outdoor gym equipment in its parks, with work already started in some zones. An MCD official said a concessionaire appointed for one year will repair faulty equipment and maintain it during that period. About 300 parks have been covered so far.

The civic body maintains around 15,000 parks, and gym equipment was installed at nearly 2,000 locations following requests from residents and councillors. The MCD floated a tender of about ₹10 crore after funds were approved from the commissioner’s budget when efforts to secure money from the Chief Minister’s Development Fund did not materialise.

A separate ₹1.2 crore allocation will fund a one-time drive to repair swings and other children’s play equipment across more than 1,200 wards. The proposal follows complaints that damaged facilities have left neighbourhood park users without safe equipment.
