Delhi MCD completes elections for 23 town vending committees

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it has completed elections and declared results for 23 town vending committees in the city.

The committees are intended to support the regulation of street vending in Delhi. Their functions include identifying vending zones and recommending certificates of vending for eligible vendors.

The development is a step towards implementing the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. The law provides a framework for protecting vendors’ livelihoods while regulating street vending.

For vendors, the committees will form part of the process for identifying vending areas and considering recommendations for certificates. For residents, the panels will have a role in how street vending is regulated in different parts of the city.

With the elections completed, the committees will now need to carry out their functions related to vending zones, regulation and certificate recommendations.
