MCD identifies 52 unauthorised fifth floors across Delhi

Fifty-two buildings with unauthorised fifth floors have been identified across Delhi’s 12 MCD zones, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said. Owners are being served notices following the September 6 building collapse in Satya Niketan.

Najafgarh and Keshavpuram zones each account for seven of the identified buildings. MCD has directed building departments in every zone to identify structures that breach height limits under the Unified Building Bye-Laws and Master Plan rules.

Owners have one week after receiving a notice to take corrective action, an MCD official said. A demolition order may follow, with action possible after a further two weeks.

On Wednesday, MCD reported 46 demolition actions across its zones, the sealing of 20 properties, 24 show-cause notices and 31 demolition or sealing orders. The corporation also said it had identified 1,243 buildings operating as paying-guest facilities and housing about 24,000 people.

MCD said demolition work continued at building number 13 in Satya Niketan, next to the structure that collapsed on September 6.
