MCD panel orders survey of unregulated pre-schools and creches in Delhi

The MCD’s Standing Committee has directed officials to survey pre-schools and creches operating outside regulations across Delhi and act where violations are found.

Chairperson Satya Sharma said the direction followed concerns about illegal play schools and stressed compliance with child-safety standards. The committee, reconstituted after its chairperson and deputy chairperson posts remained vacant, cleared more than 58 proposals pending since March.

The approvals include engaging IIT Delhi for a ward-wise waste-management audit and gap analysis. The committee also cleared a proposal for a super-speciality hospital and medical college at the Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis under a public-private partnership model, along with layout plans for new blocks and buildings at Hindu College and Hansraj College.

The committee approved an enforcement cell with 21 teams for action against unauthorised construction in 1,511 unauthorised colonies. It also cleared plans to seek Delhi government land for new gaushalas; officials said four existing facilities are operating beyond capacity.

The panel also approved the conversion of 48 rural villages into urban villages under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
