MCD removes roadside structures in Sadar Bazar, clears heritage-site encroachments in Zamrudpur

MCD teams removed roadside structures in Teliwara, Sadar Bazar, after complaints from traders about unauthorised vendors operating on the road in the busy market.

The action followed a dispute between shopkeepers and street vendors. Shopkeepers in Pratap Market had shut their establishments and protested after an argument, then approached the police and MCD seeking action.

In a separate south Delhi operation, the civic body cleared encroachments at heritage monument sites in Zamrudpur village near Greater Kailash I. The work was linked to a matter before the Supreme Court, which has sought responses from MCD and ASI leaders over Delhi heritage-site reports.

More than 60 MCD and police personnel, along with machinery, took part in the Zamrudpur drive. Officials demolished walls within the monuments, removed structures used as godowns and for cattle rearing, and dismantled three iron gates that blocked access to the heritage buildings.

MCD said it removed more than 10 truckloads of construction and demolition waste. The remaining debris is to be cleared in the next few days.
