Delhi: MCD resumes drain-silt disposal at Singhola site

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has resumed disposing of drain silt at the Singhola site, which it said had earlier been cleared through bio-mining.

In a submission before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the civic body said it returned to the site because pre-monsoon desilting work required an immediate location for the silt removed from drains.

Desilting involves clearing accumulated material from drainage channels before the monsoon. The work is intended to improve drainage and reduce the risk of waterlogging and blockages during heavy rain.

The Singhola site had been cleared through bio-mining, but is now being used again for drain silt, according to MCD's submission. The matter remains before the NGT.
