MCD says 43 dogs sterilised at Anand Vihar High Court pilot camps

Four MCD camps in Anand Vihar sterilised, vaccinated and re-released 43 dogs, the civic body told the Delhi High Court.

The camps were held on August 21 and 25, and September 3 and 7. Dog feeders and court-appointed amicus Gauri Maulekhi assisted the exercise, MCD said. It said it publicised the camps in advance and received public cooperation. MCD told the court it would continue the work, with the stated aim of declaring at least one ward rabies-free.

NDMC told the court that it held eight camps near the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court between July 24 and August 27. It said the camps vaccinated 615 dogs and that it picked up 28 dogs in its jurisdiction.

On August 3, the High Court directed MCD and NDMC to run sterilisation pilots in one ward each. The court said residents should be informed that the drives were for sterilisation, not shelter removal. The proceedings concern compliance with Supreme Court directions on stray-dog management, including restrictions on releasing dogs in institutional zones such as schools, hospitals and transport facilities.

MCD and NDMC must file comprehensive status reports by October 5. The Delhi government has also been directed to respond to an action plan aimed at eliminating rabies by 2030.
