MCG begins week-long clean-up of Gurugram’s gully traps

Gurugram’s street-level drainage traps are being cleared in a week-long MCG drive that began on Sunday, aimed at moving rainwater into the city’s drain network more quickly during heavy showers.

Teams are removing silt, soil, garbage and other blockages from gully traps at multiple locations. These fittings channel wastewater into underground sewers while using a water seal to prevent sewer gases from escaping.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram said the exercise will cover hundreds of traps, though it has not given a final count. Teams are also inspecting areas identified as vulnerable to monsoon waterlogging and carrying out cleaning where they find accumulated waste or silt.

MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said field teams had been told to regularly clean and desilt traps, particularly in vulnerable areas, and to take corrective action quickly. The civic body has asked residents not to dump rubbish in drains, gully traps or along roadsides, where it can obstruct rainwater flow.
