MCG forms four teams to remove cattle from Gurugram roads

Four teams of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials and police personnel will catch cattle found on Gurugram’s roads and shift them to designated gaushalas.

MCG has identified four gaushalas for the animals. Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said cattle on roads create risks for commuters and disrupt traffic. He said people who obstruct the teams could face legal action.

Residents have named Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Sunset Boulevard, DLF Phase 3, MG Road, Sohna Road, Old Railway Road, Sector 67, Wazirabad and parts of Old Gurugram as affected areas. Rima Sakhluja, a Sector 14 resident, said a cow suddenly crossed her path while she was riding a two-wheeler. “I was about to crash,” she said.

MCG officials said the agency previously engaged for cattle management was penalised for failing to meet its contractual obligations. They alleged that some cattle found on roads belong to dairy owners who let them loose after morning milking.

The drive follows complaints by Sector 22 residents about cattle on roads, garbage and damaged streets.
