MCG plans MoU for Kasan waste-to-energy plant in Manesar

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram is preparing an MoU with a government-owned company for a proposed waste-to-energy plant at Kasan village in Manesar.

Municipal commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the agreement will come before decisions on the plant’s capacity, technology, construction model and operations. MCG plans to begin tendering for construction and operation after those specifications are settled.

The proposed facility is intended to process fresh municipal solid waste generated in Gurugram and Manesar instead of sending it to Bandhwari. The landfill holds an estimated 16-17 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste, while biomining is under way to clear the accumulated material. A functioning Kasan plant could reduce the landfill’s daily inflow and long-distance waste transport.

The project has been pending for nearly a decade amid land, agency-selection and tendering delays. MCG has a 20-acre site at Kasan, and fencing work began after the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation handed over the remaining 10 acres in June.
