MCG sets aside ₹8 crore to expand sewers in four Gurugram areas

Sewage has repeatedly spilled onto internal roads in Dundahera, and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram now plans to expand sewer capacity there and in Sarhol, Pratap Nagar and Tigra.

MCG chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said the civic body will lay new sewer lines and augment the existing network after receiving budget approval from the FCC. At least ₹8 crore has been allocated for the work.

In Surya Vihar, RWA president Rajesh Gera said residents regularly share photographs of sewage-filled lanes on their WhatsApp group. The overflows affect pedestrians, including children and older residents, he said. Residents have also reported sewage flowing towards unauthorised garbage points near auto-rickshaw stands, leaving drivers and commuters to pass through affected stretches.

Sarhol residents say its existing sewer system is unable to handle growing wastewater volumes, particularly during heavy rain. In Tigra, resident Kamal Kumar said choked lines and rainfall lead to sewage accumulating on roads for days.

Dhaka said MCG will review other parts of Gurugram where sewerage capacity also needs to be upgraded.
