MCG to re-tender Gurugram fresh-waste processing after high bids

Gurugram’s Municipal Corporation will issue another tender to process fresh waste after its latest effort drew bids above the rate set by the civic body.

Three bidders entered the process, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said, but one did not meet the technical criteria. The remaining two quoted ₹700 a tonne and ₹1,300 a tonne, against MCG’s ₹450-a-tonne rate. MCG had raised its rate from ₹240 a tonne earlier this year after receiving no bids.

This is MCG’s fourth attempt this year to appoint an agency for fresh-waste processing. The corporation’s rate follows Haryana government-approved rates, while private agencies have sought higher rates.

MCG plans to stop sending fresh waste to the Bandhwari landfill. The National Green Tribunal has directed the corporation to halt fresh dumping there and clear legacy waste, while seeking a timeline to close the gap between Gurugram’s waste generation and treatment capacity.

MCG has identified an alternative site for fresh waste, but officials say it can be used only after an agency is appointed and processing facilities are established.
