Men posing as police allegedly steal Gurugram woman’s gold bangles

Sarla Kumari, 65, was walking home from a local temple in Gurugram’s Sector 7 Extension when two men on a motorcycle stopped her at about 9.15am on September 1, police said.

The men allegedly identified themselves as police personnel and told Kumari that wearing gold bangles openly was unsafe. They asked her to place the bangles in her bag, then offered a sheet of white paper to wrap them.

Police said the men placed the paper packet in her purse. When Kumari reached home, she found that the gold bangles had allegedly been replaced with imitation ornaments.

Her husband submitted a written complaint at New Colony police station. Police registered an FIR against unidentified suspects under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage along Kumari’s route to identify the motorcycle and trace its registration number.
