Mumbai Metro Line 6 plans Vikhroli pit line as depot approval awaits

Metro Line 6 may begin services between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli before its permanent car shed is completed. MMRDA plans to use an elevated pit line at the Vikhroli end for routine inspections, safety checks and maintenance of Metro rakes during the interim period.

The 15.31-km elevated corridor will have 13 stations and run east-west through Jogeshwari, along the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road and Powai, to Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway. It is planned to interchange with Metro Lines 2A, 7 and 3 at Adarsh Nagar, JVLR and Aarey Depot, respectively. An interchange with Line 4 at Gandhi Nagar will depend on that section of Line 4 being commissioned.

MMRDA has sought 22 hectares, or 54.36 acres, of Kanjurmarg salt-pan land for the permanent depot. The request is linked to revisions in an earlier 197.4-acre land-transfer proposal connected to the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, including changes to land parcels and CTS details. The revised proposal is awaiting Union government approval.

The project also includes a 2.58-km combined road flyover and Metro structure between Swami Samarth Nagar and Mahakali in Andheri East, to be built in coordination with the BMC.
