Modi meets chip executives at New Delhi semiconductor roundtable

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met semiconductor executives in New Delhi on Wednesday and asked them to help shape India’s next phase of chip-sector growth.

The evening roundtable included representatives from SEMI, Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, NXP, Foxconn and IBM Research, among others. Modi pointed to India’s talent base, technology adoption and infrastructure, and sought greater industry participation in skilling, innovation, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Modi referred to a target of training one crore people in AI and said industry experience could create opportunities alongside India’s talent pool. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to what he described as a predictable and responsive policy environment.

Industry representatives cited progress in manufacturing, design, infrastructure and talent development. They said they saw opportunities under ISM 2.0 and would contribute to manufacturing, research and development, advanced technologies and supporting industries. Modi invited their suggestions on policy and administrative measures for the sector.
