Delhi deploys over 25,000 personnel for Red Fort Independence Day event

More than 25,000 security personnel, including NSG teams, were deployed across Delhi and around the Red Fort as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Independence Day.

The security cover remained in place around the Red Fort until 10am. More than 1,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, facial-recognition systems, anti-drone systems and rapid-response teams were involved. DCP (North) Raja Banthia said the plan included multiple screening layers and a dedicated anti-terror response mechanism, supported by liaison work and mock drills among agencies.

Police said visitors at Lal Qila Metro station could carry only phones and passes. Security staff screened belongings, and restricted items included food, coins, remote-controlled car keys, umbrellas, power banks and handbags.

Additional DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt said no threat was reported during the event and there were no aerial or drone-related disruptions. Roads around the Red Fort were closed to general traffic from 4am to 10am, while Metro services began at 4am at 30-minute intervals initially.
