Delhi MPD 2047 proposes sports venues in Narela, Dwarka and Rohini

Narela, Dwarka and Rohini could get international-standard sports venues under Delhi’s draft Master Plan 2047, which proposes expanding the city’s capacity to host national and international events.

The draft plan refers to existing facilities including the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shivaji Stadium, 23 DDA sports complexes and three golf courses. It proposes moving sports facilities from the public and semi-public category to recreational land use, which includes leisure, entertainment and green areas.

For community, district and divisional sports centres, the proposed maximum ground coverage is 20%, with a floor area ratio (FAR) of 40. Golf courses and clubs would have a 10% ground-coverage limit and an FAR of 20. The draft says development norms for international sports centres would be set individually according to the sport and the scale of each venue.

It also proposes increasing the permissible commercial component from 5% to 10-25% of utilised FAR or built-up area. At golf courses and clubs, up to 20% of FAR could be used for shops, restaurants, hotels, offices and recreational clubs. The central government has yet to issue the plan’s gazette notification.
