Mumbai auto, taxi fares rise as CNG price reaches ₹88 per kg

A Mumbai autorickshaw ride now starts at ₹27, up from ₹26. The minimum fare for a black-and-yellow taxi is ₹33, up from ₹31.

The revised rates apply across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Mumbai and neighbouring urban areas. Midnight minimum fares are now ₹34 for autorickshaws and ₹41 for taxis, compared with ₹32 and ₹39 earlier.

The fare revision took effect as Mahanagar Gas Limited increased CNG prices by ₹2 per kg, taking the rate to ₹88 per kg. Umesh Rajbhar, an autorickshaw driver, said higher fuel, maintenance and other costs meant there was “hardly any improvement” in drivers’ earnings.

Thampi Kurien, president of the Auto-Rickshaw Union, said much of the ₹1.08-per-km increase was already linked to inflation and that the revision had been delayed by nearly three months. Taxi union representative Shashank Rao said drivers had sought an increase of at least ₹3.
