Mumbai: Light rain, gusts up to 60 kmph forecast as Ganeshotsav begins

Cloudy skies, light rain and gusty winds greeted Mumbai on Monday as Ganeshotsav celebrations began across the city.

The India Meteorological Department forecast light-to-moderate rain and thundershowers in Mumbai and its suburbs through the day. Winds are expected at 40-50 kmph, with gusts of 50-60 kmph during stronger spells. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 30°C, while the minimum recorded on Monday morning was 26°C.

Mumbai has no rain warning for the day, though isolated pockets could receive moderate-to-heavy showers. Thane and Palghar are under a yellow alert.

Heavy rain on Sunday affected Ganesh idol arrival processions and festive shopping in parts of Mumbai and the wider metropolitan region. Several areas recorded more than 150 mm of rain, with the western suburbs receiving more rain than the eastern suburbs and island city.

Mumbai’s overall AQI was 46 on Monday morning, in the good category.
