Mumbai weather: gusty winds, light showers; yellow alert for Sept 12-13

Mumbai woke to overcast skies and gusty winds on September 10, with light rain expected across the city and suburbs through the day.

The India Meteorological Department said generally cloudy conditions will continue, with intermittent showers at several places. While widespread heavy rain is not expected, isolated pockets could receive moderate to heavy spells. Winds may remain around 40-50 kmph and gust up to 50-60 kmph during stronger rain.

A yellow alert is in place for Mumbai and the metropolitan region on September 12 and 13. The forecast includes thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.

The maximum temperature on September 10 is expected to be about 33°C, while the minimum recorded in the morning was 29°C. Mumbai’s overall air quality index was 32, in the Good category.

The showers follow a break of more than two weeks. Mumbai received less than 200 mm of rain in August, 66% below normal for the month, the IMD said.
