Mumbai records 25,231 Ganesh and Hartalika idol immersions by 9pm

By 9pm on Tuesday, Mumbai had recorded the immersion of 24,631 Ganesh idols during the one-and-a-half-day phase of Ganeshotsav.

The total included 110 idols from public Ganesh mandals and 24,521 household idols, according to the BMC. A further 600 Hartalika, or Goddess Parvati, idols were immersed, taking the overall count to 25,231.

The civic body said it had arranged facilities at immersion locations across Mumbai, including artificial ponds. It said no incidents were reported during the process.

Ganeshotsav began a day earlier and will continue through September 25, when Anant Chaturdashi will bring the festival’s final immersion processions. Idols are traditionally immersed after one-and-a-half, five or seven days of worship, as well as on the final day.
