Mumbai deploys police, railway staff for Ganeshotsav crowds

More than 16,800 Mumbai Police personnel are deployed across the city for Ganeshotsav. Additional forces are planned for immersion days to manage crowds, traffic and law-and-order duties.

The deployment includes seven Additional Commissioners of Police, 37 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 52 Assistant Commissioners of Police, around 2,650 officers and 14,150 police personnel.

Central Railway is adding 219 Railway Protection Force personnel and more than 200 commercial and operating staff at key stations. Byculla, Dadar, Panvel, Thane, Chinchpokli and Currey Road are among the stations receiving additional staff.

Railway teams will use barricades, ropes, public-address systems and wireless communication to regulate passenger movement around platforms, foot overbridges, staircases and exits.

Chinchpokli, Currey Road and Dadar are expected to be key access points for visitors to Lalbaug-area pandals. Central Railway will also station staff at CSMT, Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane and Panvel to monitor movement and guide passengers towards digital ticketing and the UTS mobile app.

Western Railway is adding 80 RPF personnel from Surat during the festival period and will coordinate with the Government Railway Police.
