Mumbai University students protest over KRC library facilities

Students assembled outside Mumbai University’s Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) library at 1 pm on September 11, citing an air-conditioning system they said had not worked properly for more than a year, unreliable Wi-Fi and washrooms needing regular cleaning.

Protesters said poor cooling and ventilation made long study sessions difficult. They said unstable internet access disrupted research, access to online study material and assignments for library users.

They also sought extended library hours during examination periods. Students asked the university to introduce regular infrastructure checks and timely maintenance for ventilation, sanitation, internet connectivity and study spaces.

A protest appeal circulated before the gathering called on students across batches and departments to join the demonstration.
