Music night at Bengaluru hospital draws criticism over venue and patient access

Live music played on the non-clinical floors of Superhealth Bengaluru during HOSPITA/ITY, a Saturday-night event organised with Localhost HQ.

The hospital’s event rules said the programme would begin after OPD hours, while clinical and event floors would remain separate. Patient areas were to stay private, IPD access restricted and emergency routes kept open. Alcohol, smoking and vaping were prohibited; security and hospitality teams were assigned to manage access and movement.

The notice also said sound levels had been set around the hospital’s responsibilities and would be monitored through the night. It advertised “Superboosters, kombucha, music and good energy”.

Videos and photographs from the event prompted criticism online. Several commenters said that patients and families navigating illness, emergencies or grief had not chosen to be around a music programme. One commenter wrote that there was a difference between bringing art into healthcare settings and making an active hospital the venue for a Saturday-night party.

The organisers described the event as an effort to present hospitals as spaces with roles beyond clinical care. No response from Superhealth Bengaluru or Localhost HQ to the criticism was included.
