Nature Morte opens Gulmohar Park gallery with inaugural exhibition

Nature Morte has opened a space in Gulmohar Park, a few houses from the Neeti Bagh address where the gallery began in 1997.

Its inaugural exhibition, *The Evolution of the Soothsayer*, is curated by founder Peter Nagy and brings together artists from different periods in the gallery’s history. The selection includes early associates Manisha Parikh and Dayanita Singh, alongside more recent additions such as Abir Karmakar.

The exhibition includes Alicja Kwade’s *Principium* (2025), made with stacked smartphone casts. The gallery describes the work as drawing on the human body and the DNA double helix to consider what phones may reveal about their users.

Director Aparajita Jain described the opening as a step into the gallery’s fourth decade. Nagy said Delhi’s growing gallery ecosystem needs more spaces for young artists and encouraged new entrants to study artists’ work closely.
