NCR SUV owners head to monsoon off-road trails

Mud, slush, water crossings and slippery surfaces are taking NCR SUV owners off city roads on monsoon weekends.

On organised dirt trails, drivers test how their vehicles handle terrain that rain can quickly alter. Amarjit Singh of the NCR-based Gang of Thars community said the outings bring owners together to exchange techniques and help one another through difficult sections.

Anand Sharma, who runs Yansh Adventure Motorsports in Gurgaon, said the monsoon is a particularly active period for people looking to take vehicles through mud and slush. He said the wider range of off-road-capable models, including the Jimny, Thar, Isuzu, Hilux, Defender, Gurkha, Duster and Sierra, has widened interest in the activity.

Dr Kshamta Yadav, an educator in her 40s who takes part in off-road drives, said more women drivers are joining the outings. She described monsoon trails and rallies as exercises in “skill, patience and reading the terrain”.
