NDMC apologises after August 25 rain leaves waterlogged stretches

More than 72 mm of rain fell in the NDMC area in less than two hours on August 25, causing waterlogging at several locations, the civic body said.

NDMC chairperson Manoj Kumar Dwivedi apologised to residents affected by the disruption. He said the council usually aims to clear accumulated water within 15 to 20 minutes, but water took more than an hour to drain at three or four locations.

Dwivedi said the intensity of the rain was unexpected but did not excuse the inconvenience to residents. He said the showers disrupted movement across parts of Delhi on Tuesday.

NDMC will take immediate and longer-term measures to improve its response, Dwivedi said. He invited residents to share suggestions on improving the system.
