NDMC to begin waste-segregation pledge drive in at least 10 New Delhi colonies

Residents of at least 10 colonies in the NDMC area will be asked to sign a waste-segregation pledge next week as the civic body begins a campaign with resident welfare associations.

The drive will encourage households to separate wet, dry, sanitary and domestic hazardous waste at source. NDMC said the campaign follows the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and will also encourage residents to compost wet waste. NDMC chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi said it would promote the Swachh Bharat Mission and a “zero waste culture”.

The council is continuing its “Roko Toko, Swachhata Ko Badhao” campaign in markets, where Palika Sahayaks speak with visitors and residents about using dustbins and avoiding littering.

NDMC has also begun work to establish a system for the upkeep and functioning of public and community toilets in its area. Dwivedi said many of the facilities need improvement.
