NDMC to run 24-hour control room for BRICS Summit in New Delhi

NDMC will operate its Command and Control Centre at Palika Kendra around the clock from September 5 to 14 for the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

The summit is scheduled for September 11 to 13. The centre will include a traffic-monitoring control room, with officers working in three shifts. NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal said 11 wings of the civic body will be on night duty, department heads will be available for calls, and the chief security officer will coordinate with Delhi Police and traffic police.

NDMC is preparing 41 major roads used by delegates and other summit traffic. It said repairs to roads, footpaths and bus shelters have been completed, painting has finished on 32 roads, and work is continuing on nine.

The civic body plans decorative lighting at 17 roundabouts, 11 hotels and 10 NDMC buildings, along with floral displays at 15 locations and more than 15,000 flower pots along key roads and intersections. NDMC said it has checked streetlights on summit routes and will replace faulty lights.

Mist spraying is planned at Lodhi Road, Tilak Marg, Africa Avenue, Shantipath and Zakir Hussain Road.

At Baba Kharak Singh Marg, NDMC has deployed an additional 80 HP pump and a mobile pumping van. At Mandir Marg, it has installed a 20 HP pump and 45 metres of 900-mm drainage pipe.
