NDMC suspends executive engineer after central Delhi waterlogging

NDMC has suspended an executive engineer with immediate effect over alleged lapses in its response to rain-related waterlogging in central Delhi.

Its order said pumps were non-functional during rainfall on July 28 at Tibetan Market, Janpath, and near Kake Da Dhaba in Connaught Place. The order also recorded that a pump operator was absent from the site despite directions.

The civic body said the engineer had not carried out assigned duties with the required diligence and vigilance, citing provisions of the Central Civil Services conduct rules.

The action follows waterlogging reported across the NDMC area in late August, including Connaught Place. NDMC publicly apologised after that spell and installed high-capacity pumps at identified vulnerable points, including the Outer Circle near Panchkuian Road, Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Mandir Marg T-point and Talkatora. NDMC’s earlier apology followed similar disruption.
