Bengaluru survey finds one in three women reported harassment

Nearly one in three women surveyed in Bengaluru said they had faced harassment in the previous year. Many said concern about harassment influenced their work and daily choices.

*The City Through Her Eyes* surveyed more than 4,000 women in public spaces across Bengaluru and Delhi. In Bengaluru, about 14% of respondents reported severe harassment, including groping, stalking or sexual assault. Around 0.2% said they had experienced sexual assault in the past year, while 25% said they feared it.

The study found that 76% to 80% of reported harassment incidents occurred between 5am and 8pm.

Among non-student women surveyed in Bengaluru, 68% said concern about harassment mattered when deciding whether to work, and 84% said it affected their choice of workplace. Safety concerns also limited social activities for 21% of respondents and routine chores or self-care for 17%.
