Noida bars waste dumping from 10pm to 4am, deploys patrol teams

Noida Authority has barred waste dumping between 10pm and 4am and assigned patrol teams to each of its 10 work circles to curb illegal dumping.

Each team will include a junior engineer, two staff members from a partner NGO and security personnel. The teams will inspect designated areas daily and penalise people found dumping waste, the Authority said.

Officials said unauthorised scrap dealers were allegedly collecting garbage for a charge and dumping it at locations including the Pushta floodplain, farmers’ plots in Sector 58, stretches on both sides of the Hindon between Noida and Greater Noida West, Bahlolpur, Chhijarsi, Nangli Wajidpur near Sector 135, Sector 137 and Sorkha. Officials said a vehicle was found dumping waste in Sector 50 two days earlier.

Residents of Sectors 82, 51, 50, 55 and 63 have also complained that waste collected from homes remained at accumulation points for days. Noida generates an estimated 700 to 1,000 tonnes of municipal waste daily, which is sent to the Sector 145 processing and disposal site.

The patrol drive follows an NGT directive to curb night-time dumping.
