Noida police seek custody of suspect held in Bihar in woman’s death

Noida police have begun legal procedures to bring a 30-year-old man from Bihar for questioning in connection with the death of an 18-year-old woman found in a locked room in Sector 49’s Barola area.

The woman was found on Monday after the landlord of the four-storey building reported a foul smell from the first-floor room, police said. A post-mortem examination found multiple injuries and recorded shock from the attack as the cause of death.

Police said the man, who occupied the room, was arrested in Katihar, Bihar, on Tuesday in a liquor-trafficking case. Bihar police allegedly recovered five bottles of liquor marked for sale in West Bengal, police said.

Noida police said they completed B-warrant, or production-warrant, formalities at the Surajpur court on Thursday to seek his custody. Investigators said they are examining the circumstances and motive behind the woman’s death.

Police also allege that the man left Noida after the incident and discarded two mobile phones in a drain outside the accommodation.
