Noida plans Sector 80 biogas plant for horticulture waste

Noida’s daily horticulture waste, estimated at 100-120 tonnes, could be routed to a compressed-biogas facility planned for Sector 80.

The Noida Authority has identified a 12-acre plot for the project and issued an expression of interest to appoint an agency, Deputy Director Anand Mohan Singh said. The agency would design, finance, develop and operate the plant, which is intended to process green waste collected across the city into compressed biogas.

At present, horticulture waste is taken to dumping grounds in Sectors 32 and 105. Officials said both sites are operating beyond capacity, making collection, disposal and decomposition more difficult. Officials also identified the Sector 32 site as a fire and pollution concern for nearby residents.

The selected agency will segregate incoming waste, manage residual material and remove legacy horticulture waste from existing dumping locations. It may also procure horticulture waste from other sources to support the project’s viability.

The initial operating contract will run for 12 years and may be extended by up to three years. The Authority requires the facility to begin operations within 18 months of the agency’s appointment.
