Noida police book rash-driving case after SUV hits sedan in Sector 119

A Honda City carrying Kumar Shivam’s family, including a 13-month-old child, was allegedly hit from behind by a Grand Vitara in Noida’s Sector 119 at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said the SUV was being driven by a 14-year-old from Sector 122, who had taken the family vehicle out with his younger brother and travelled nearly a kilometre before the crash near a CNG pump opposite Homes 121. Shivam said the impact damaged the rear of his car; he alleged that the boy tried to leave before passersby stopped him.

An FIR has been registered at Sector 113 police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions relating to rash driving and mischief. Police said they will also proceed against the boy’s parents and the vehicle owner under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act. The provision can bring up to three years’ imprisonment, a Rs 25,000 fine and cancellation of the vehicle’s registration for 12 months.

Noida police recorded 77 challans involving underage drivers until July this year.
